Frequently asked questions
Why switch from liquid paint to powder coating for steel structures?
Powder coating gives a stronger, even finish without solvents. It cures quickly, so parts are ready sooner. In addition, overspray can be recovered. The result is better quality, more flexibility and lower costs.
How large and heavy can the parts be?
We design the line around your largest and heaviest parts. Recently we built installations for steel structures up to 24 m long and 3.5 tonnes.
Which conveyor system suits heavy steel?
For continuous high-capacity production a power & free system, for batch work a transfer rail system. In both cases we recommend lowering sections for ergonomic loading and unloading.
How are steel structures pretreated?
Pretreatment can be chemical, mechanical or a combination of both, depending on the quality requirements and the incoming material. We are happy to advise you on the best approach for your situation.
Can galvanised steel be powder coated (duplex system)?
Yes, although outgassing must be taken into account. The porous zinc layer can trap air, moisture and residues that cause surface defects during curing. Pre-baking is the most effective way to prevent this.
How quickly does a new line reach full capacity?
A major advantage of powder coating is that it is quick to learn, and we are happy to provide that training. Typically the line runs at full capacity just 2 to 3 months after start-up.
